So what do you do when your child is begging for applesauce but you don’t have any? MAKE SOME!
It’s super simple and fast! I made it, and packaged it in little containers for easy access in about 30 minutes. The best part is, it’s sugar free and I know EXACTLY what’s in it!
Total time:
(1/2 a nap time)
Supplies:
- Organic Apples (Two mediumĀ apples make one small container of applesauce)
- Cinnamon (to taste, for 4 apples I used 1/2 tsp)
- Pinch of salt
- Filtered water
- A Pot with a lid
- Blender, hand blender, or food processor
Prepare your apples. Wash and peel (yes, I wash them even when I’m peeling them, just in case) I got this bag of small Honeycrisp apples at Trader Joe’s.
Next, Chop your apples into 1/2 inch pieces
Then, throw all your apples into the pot, add a couple tablespoons of water, a pinch of salt and put the lid on. Cook on med- med/high heat for about 10 minutes until it’s simmering and the juices are coming out of the apples.
Reduce heat to medium and check after 10 more minutes. Poke some of the apples with a fork and keep cooking until the fork slides in like butter, then they are done! Add your Cinnamon.
Remove from heat and blend the apples until smooth. Add water a tablespoon at a time until it is the right thickness for your liking. I like to make it a little thick so it doesn’t slide off my little one’s spoon.
Let it cool just a bit and put it in jars, containers, or a big bowl, whatever! Refrigerate until cool (about an hour) and serve!
